New pressure over faith schools

A ‘Multi Faith’ Society?
Posted by: | CommentsAction requested from YOU by the BHA
As part of their community cohesion work, the Government has proposed in its White Paper ‘Face to Face and Side by Side: A Framework for Partnership in our Multi Faith Society’ to champion the role of ‘faith groups’ and ‘inter faith’ work in local social dialogue and action.
We believe that the paper gives disproportionate support to ‘faith groups’ and overplays the importance of ‘inter faith’ work in social cohesion. It fails to recognise work done by organisations which are not based on religion or belief, or by organisations which are based on non-religious beliefs. It also gives no indication of how non-religious people can be involved in cohesion work in order to increase understanding between people of different backgrounds.
If you agree with us, please use this site to email your MP and urge them to discuss the issues with the Minister through the link on the left. Read through the text and edit it as appropriate. This is very important as the text will not make sense unless you edit it to be personalised! It is important to point out that it is not just religious groups and individuals who take on local dialogue work and social action.
