OUR AIMS FOR HUMANIST EDUCATION WITHIN BERKSHIRE

classroom_bakTo ensure that all Berkshire children can use their abilities in a spirit of open enquiry, first of all to hear about Humanism, its ideas and lifestyle as a natural part of finding out how to answer the big questions of life. Secondly to develop their own responsibility and conclusions about the answers.

To assist parents, individual teachers, schools, authorities and other organisations with resources and other support in achieving this aim.

THESE AIMS ARE BEST ACHIEVED BY:

  • Tactics to achieve objectives which are realistic and realisable within a reasonable period. Current tactics and activities are found by clicking on the EDUCATION tab above to give the drop down menu.

  • Support for the classroom which is based upon getting children to interact with committed Humanists in person.

  • Facilitating the provision of resources from Humanist education institutions such as the British Humanist Association. For a list which links to these resources click on the drop down menu above.

  • Joining local Inter-faith forums and the Standing Advisory Committees on Religious Education (SACREs) of the six unitary authorities in Berkshire. For details see the page drop down menu above.

  • Liasing with the council officials who are responsible for equalities of provision and opportunity. For details of officials in your area click here.

  • Helping parents to deal with problems that arise from the implementation of school or local Religious Education policies (including withdrawal from RE activities and transport issues). For examples of action taken in this area keep watching.
